Self
Contained Web Application
Using VP-ASP as a self contained application requires
that the database be loaded with products and categories. This can be done
by using Microsoft Access on your own PC or using the shop administration
functions via your browser. VP-ASP can then be used as a fully self contained
web application. It automatically shows products, categories, search, and normal
buying, checkout and administration facilities. You do not need FrontPage or any
other editor.
You can tailor the "look
and feel" by changing the include files for the header
and trailer portion.
The colors and feel of the categories, products and shopping
cart are also easily changed.
What Is Missing in Non-Registered Version
VP-ASP is fully functionally. We do not include the following features with the download version, because VP-ASP is so inexpensive we want you to buy it.
No mail confirmation is sent to merchant or customer
No subcategories are displayed
No extra features will display for products such as color, size
No advanced search for merchant
No complete order form is printed at completion of the order for customer
No advanced button processing for ordering

Any existing web can easily interface to VP-ASP. There are two ways. By just
including a simple link anywhere in the existing web to routine shopdisplaycategories.asp
all the shopping facilities, product displays are automatic. No
further interface is required.

The second method of
interfacing to your existing web is slightly more complex
A specific hyperlink is added anywhere
in your existing web to routine shopaddtocart.asp.
This will allow adding one specific product to the cart from
anywhere in the existing web.
Two parameters are required as shown below. the product id
come from the products database.

VP-ASP has extensive optional features
that can be tailored using your favourite editor or
FrontPage.
By changing two the header and
trailer files the shopping cart logo, header and footer can totally reflect your own
web site style.
Shipping information can be required or bypassed, or add you own constant shipping information.
Merchant E-mail can be automatic or turned off.
SSL security can be required or ignored.

VP-ASP is pure Active Server Pages. It does not require any special web
hosting installation except that Active Server Page and database support.
VP-ASP will run under any Windows NT/2000 Windows hosting that supports Active
Server Pages and Windows 95/98 with Personal Web
Server.
Each shopping cart is a separate Access 97/2000 database with its own products, categories, order and administration. You can install different shopping carts in separate directories with their own databases.
An item can be added to your cart through a form, or a hyperlink. VP-ASP also provides automatic display of all your product categories and products within a category. All code necessary to add items to your cart, display product photos is included with no programming.
Orders are stored in the Access database. An administrator with the correct userid and password can view and display all information about the order which can then be printed, marked as processed and optionally be deleted. Multiple userids are supported. Each can have different administrative facilities.
Products, categories and other information in the database can be altered using standard Microsoft Access features. It can also be changed, viewed and altered using a browser. For example product prices can be altered, new products added, all without taking down your shopping cart. No programming is necessary. All components for browser administration are supplied.
Each product can have a product code, product name and a product description. A photo of the product can be supplied. If an image location is entered into the database it is automatically displayed with the other product information.
Orders can be viewed via a browser and then printed. Orders can be either marked as processed and left in the database or deleted. Search by orders which have been processed, which have not been processed can be done via browser administration.
VP-ASP comes with a sample startup-page which displays all your product categories. These will automatically display all products within a category. A search facility is also provided. A store can be created in a few minutes with no programming.
You can integrate the store with an existing web or create a new web with your favourite editor. You can modify the display to suit your needs.
There is no intrinsic limitation to the number of products or product categories. There must be at least one product in your database.
If your web hosting company supports secure access via SSL ( https) then VP-ASP will use this security to upload credit card information in an encrypted form. If you do not have a secure connection VP-ASP will still work. A buyer can print the order that is automatically created..

When an order has been received, VP-ASP can optionally e-mail to the supplier/merchant. VP-ASP uses ASPmail or NT CDONTs mail facility. You can alter the mail capability to suit your server.
If your Internet customer does not want to sent a credit card over the Internet or you do not accept credit cards, an order form can be printed out (with all details filled in). This is a standard feature. It prints your company address details (taken from the shopping database). The customer can then fax or mail the order directly to the merchant.
Images are automatically displayed if the image location is stored with the product description.
If you have a detailed product specification page, an automatic link is generated when the product information is displayed. The buyer can instantly switch to this extended description. Just add link when you add the product to the database.
If you have Microsoft Access, you can use the predefined form to load your product information.
If you do not have Microsoft Access or don't want to use it you can add products using your web browser and the administrative facility of VP-ASP.
VP-ASP supports tax calculation of any type for any country. Simple alter a minimum of 1 line of code to put your tax rate, or you can add extended logic for different products and states in a supplied include file. VP-ASP does all the rest including displaying tax for customer and merchant.
